A new Sacramento Bee op-ed, this one by veteran columnist Dan Walters.

A new Sacramento Bee op-ed, this one by veteran columnist Dan Walters. I agree with his main point about the need to revisit the California Master Plan for #highered, and I've been saying that since 2013 if not sooner.

Mileage varies on several of his cited examples, and I think "seamless" systems are only seamless at the 30,000-foot level of observation. But he may really just be throwing edu-chum in the water with that, pushing the conversation.

Ironically, this story came out the morning of the US attack on Syria. (It covers higher ed across #Monterey County, #California, but leads with the story of a Syrian student.)

Lama Ranjous was coming of age in Damascus just as Syria was thrumming with the possibility of change. She left her hometown of Hama, about three hours from Damascus, to live in the city and study political science, and just after she graduated college in 2010, the Arab Spring began to deliver hope of democracy, but also rocked the region with violence.
